This is goodbye

Well folks, what you are currently reading is none other than the very last article I will write on this blog. Indeed, I have had enough of ducks for now. Yeah yeah, I just as sad as you are…

The idea of making a blog about ducks started as a joke in the beginning, and to be frank, I did not even think I would be able to keep up and find enough ideas to only speak about ducks. But in the end, even if it was not always easy to come up with new articles, it was a pretty funny thing to do and I finally did it!

I hope, dear reader, that you will think about me when you encounter duck happily swimming in a pound! Or even when you’ll be eating a delicious fillet of duck breast, whatever.

Bye bye!

This is goodbye

Suddenly, horses.

A small article just to tell you guys about a video I made with some of my (crazy) friends.

This video presents a dating website designed exclusively for horses. We wanted to make a video about a dating website for ducks, however we didn’t find ducks masks anywhere, so we had to go with horses…

Suddenly, horses.

The Life And Times of Scrooge McDuck (part 4)

He becomes a millionaire at the age of 32. After buying a bank and starting a financial empire, he even becomes a billionaire at the age of 35. He settles down in Duckburg, a small city in the United States. He builds his Money Build, a giant building made for the purpose of containing all his money. He often dives into his “money swimming pool”.

But even with all this money, it’s still not enough for him. He goes on and at the age of 63, he finally becomes the richest duck in the world. However, at the age of 75 he becomes tired and depressed : therefore he decides to retire. And that’s where Donald Duck, Scrooge’s nephew, comes into play. Donald and his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, manage to bring back the sparkle in Scrooge’s eyes, which decides to go back into adventure.

At the age of 13, Scrooge McDuck decide to emigrate to the United States of America. Indeed, in 1880, America was seen as a great opportunity to make big money… If you were willing to work hard enough. He worked with his uncle Angus “Pothole” McDuck, a Mississippi riverboater. While working with his uncle as a riverboater, he met the Beagle Boys, a family of outlaws which remained his sword enemies for the rest of his life.

At the age of 15, his uncle retires and gives him his boat business. However, the Beagle boys destroy the boat of Scrooge’s Uncle, leaving unable to run the business. Therefore, Scrooge McDuck decides to try his luck in the American west, first as a cowboy and later, when he is 16 years old, as a miner searching for silver and copper. At 19, he will even become a gold-digger in South Africa. He eventually returns to the United States at the age of 22, still to search for gold.

Even if he is the richest duck in the world, Scrooge McDuck was actually born in a poor family in Glasgow, Scotland (yeah, Scrooge McDuck is a scottish duck). He is the first child of Fergus McDuck and Downy O’Drake. Fergus McDuck is a descendant from a noble family: the McDuck Clan. The McDuck Clan used to be very wealthy but they lost everything because of a so called “monstrous devil dog” which haunted the land next to their castle (this devil dog was actually a hoax created by a rival family in order to make the McDuck Clan leave their castle).

Scrooge McDuck decided to start a business with a shoeshine kit that his father built for just for him. However, his very first customer fooled him and paid him with an 1875 US dime, which is completely useless in Scotland. Still, he decided to keep the coin as a symbol of his success. This coin later became his famous “Number One Dime”, which, according to Scrooge McDuck, brings good luck to its possessor : in some stories, he even starts losing money whenever the dime is no longer in his possession.

In the following articles, I am going to summarize the life of one of my favorite Disney characters, that is to say, Scrooge McDuck – also known as “Uncle Scrooge”, as Donald and his nephews call him. This summary will be based on the comics The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, which is in my humble opinion the best Disney comics ever written.

These comics were written by Don Rosa between 1991 and 1993 : it’s a lot of work in a pretty short time! Don Rosa is a very prolific Disney author, who mainly wrote stories involving the characters of Duckburg (that is to say, the city where Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge lives). Surprisingly, both the drawing style as well as the way the story is related are pretty mature for a Disney character’s comics. If you haven’t already, I invite you to read these comics, it is really worth the read.

Ready? Let’s go! … Just kidding, I will start the summary in my next article.

Fowl Language Comics

Fowl Language Comics is a web comic which started in 2013 and is about a duck trying to cope with everyday’s life troubles. The guy who writes this comics has kids, so most of the stories are largely inspired by the struggles of the author as a parent, but some stories are about new technologies and other geeky stuffs.

Even if some of these comics are pretty funny, most of the time I cannot relate to them since I don’t have kids and don’t plan to have kids either. However, it is the only comics I know which involves ducks! I prefer other web comics such as :

  • Cyanide and Happiness : I already presented one of their videos in one of my earliest articles. They write a new comics everyday, as well as a new video about every week. If you like dark and absurd humor, this web comics is for you!
  • XKCD : a very geeky/nerdy and web comics, written by a guy who used to work for the NSA.
  • SMBC (Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal) : This one is almost like XKCD, but the drawings are better and the jokes more… “Accessible”.

Here are some comics from fowllanguagecomics.com, I hope you will like it :
